SAM4 Wrap-Up

Well, Sock a Month 4 has officially come to a close. Thank you to all who participated, it was a fun round and it was great to see so many pretty pairs of socks knit in the past five months. And thank you to those of you who were kind enough to donate prizes to the cause.

Speaking of prizes, I've just completed the final four prize drawings, and the winners are as follows:

NOVEMBER SOCKS - Cathy

DECEMBER SOCKS - Shannan

GRAND PRIZE 1 (for anyone who completed at least one pair of socks) - Weezalana

GRAND PRIZE 2 (for anyone who completed all five pairs of socks) - Tama

Congratulations, ladies!! I will e-mail you for your snail-mail addresses and get your prizes out to you.

I'd also like to thank Becca, Liz and Zonda for co-hosting with me. I appreciate all your hard work to keep this KAL running smoothly.

Zonda has the next round, SAM5, up and running, and I hope to see you over there. Sign-ups are closed because all the spots have already been filled, but if you didn't get in check back often as new slots may open up in the future.

Happy New Year

Hi Everyone! I know you are all busy with Holiday Knitting and getting your December socks done but wanted you to know you can start to sign up for SAM 5.

It will run from January 2008 - June 2008.

Email me your NAME, EMAIL, and BLOG (if applicable) at SAM5for2008@gmail.com

Karen and I are working on getting a blog set up and invites will follow as soon as possible. (hint, um..probably not until late next week though! ;)

I think this last KAL went really well with the amount of helpers to send invites and post the finished monthly letters and hope to continue to do the same this time. I'll let you know if we will need any new volunteers to do so.

I've been around since SAM 1, many moons ago and it keeps me focused on getting socks done. Plus seeing everyone else's socks and yarns is a lot of fun too!

Right now, we'll be staying with blogger. I know it can be a pain, but hang in there, they do get posted eventually.

I look forward to a Sock filled 2008 with all of you!

* * * SAM 5 Blog is almost ready.... * * * (sticky post!!)

to go! We've been saving all your emails and so close to sending invites. Thanks so much for your patience!

We'd love to have one more volunteer to send out invites and keep track of your list of participants and awarding their letter of the month. If you are interested, please email me ASAP at e-mail SAM5for2008 AT gmail DOT com

We are also limiting this KAL to 250 participants this time. If you are unable to post a finished sock by mid-KAL, we'll remove your name from the sidebar as to help with keeping the blog to run smoothly.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Also, if you do not get an invite by the 5th of January, let us know! As always, if you have completed your pair, and not been awarded your letter by the end of the month, or a few days into the new month, let us know..um..I have been guilty of missing a post or two and have no problem with being gently reminded.

Here's to a Sockin' New 2008!!!

DOH!

Well, I don't have any pictures to show, but I did finish another pair of pedicure socks in December. I was in such a hurry to get them washed, wrapped, and packed for the trip...oh, well. And I even tried to knit another pair but ran out of time (you will see them on SAM5).

This has been a blast and I think I've knitted 7 pairs of socks in the 6 months of SAM4. Not bad considering all the other knitted things I've done. Thanks for the inspiration and I'm looking forward to 5!

I really did finish this pair of socks on New Year's Eve; I didn't get a picture until yestday. This pair of socks was a Christmas gift; the recipient received one sock and a promissory note on Christmas morning.

December Socks

I made a wee pair of baby socks for a friend, finishing last week, but forgot to photograph or post the finished product. I know it sounds fishy, but it's true! I've had a great time with this KAL- on to SAM 5!!

My Final FO of 2007!

First of all - for those of you on the East coast - Happy New Year!!! :) I'm on the West coast, so I have a few more hours. lol :)

I have to give a big shout out to Jessica for posting her Toasty Tootsies socks/slippers, because I was about to end December as being the only month this year that I did not finish socks. I started these yesterday and finished them today!

FO: Fuzzy Feet (pre-felting)

These are the Fuzzy Feet pattern from the Winter 2002 (!) issue of Knitty. I used some stashed Peruvian collection Highland Wool from elann.com that I've had FOREVER. The color is #2173 (Aubergine, I think). The picture is pre-felting, with the Chibi for scale.

A Good Finish

I knit two pair of little socks to end the year. I use these for gifts for the students in my Childbirth classes. Knit cuff down on Magic Loop using the Super Quick Baby Socks pattern.

New Year's Eve Jaywalkers

Pattern: Jaywalker

Yarn: Fiesta Baby Boom, colorway Madrid

Needles: Addi Turbo Lace size 1 (2.5mm)

Method: Toe-up, two at a time, Magic Loop

I've been wanting to try this pattern for a long time, but was a little scared off because so many others have problems with them being too small. I ended up using 76 stitches and they fit my size 11 foot just fine. I do wish I'd done a few more gusset rounds to give the heel more room, but although they take a little work to get on, they fit nicely. Let's all just pretend that the two skeins of yarn were alike and not mention that one sock clearly has more green to it. It's a great pattern and I plan on making more Jaywalkers.

Thanks to all of the G-L alphabet for being patient with me giving you your marks! I've had a great time on this SAM and found so many new blogs to enjoy.

Happy knitting in 2008!

Monkeys In December

Here is my first pair that I have knitted in a stitch pattern: Cookie A's very popular Monkey. They were knitted toe-up, so the pattern points in the opposite direction. I can see why this pattern is so well loved; it's easy to memorize and looks great. I purchased my yarn from White Willow on Etsy.com. I used the Turkish cast on and Lucy Neatby's garter stitch short row heel.

Happy New Year to all of you, and I hope to see you on SAM5.
